Manchester United are set to host Young Boys at Old Trafford on Wednesday Night in the final group fixture of the UEFA Champions League, with kickoff at
Despite entering their final group match already secured the advance to the UEFA Champions League’s knockout stage, Manchester will not want to lose to Young Boys in this fixture and will be out for revenge having experienced an unpleasant night in their opener in Bern as Young Boys came from behind to humiliate United with a late winner in the 2-1 success.
The defeat was the beginning of the end of Ole Gunnar’s rein at Old Trafford and this will the fourth match for United without Ole. During that period United have not lost in any match claiming three wins and a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in London.
The Red Devils began a new era under Ralf Rangnick last weekend with a hard fought one win success over Crystal Palace in the Premier League, creating a positive atmosphere at Old Trafford. Although Rangnick is expected to alternate his squad since no team in the group endangers their status at the summit, Ralf will need a win in this match for the Old Trafford faithfuls and also a win on Wednesday will surely boost United’s confidence even more ahead of difficult winter period.
Meanwhile Young Boys took us by surprise in the group opener and many expected the Swiss to be a major contender in the Group F, but that hasn’t been the case as Young Boys went on to lose three matches on the trot in the group, once to Atalanta and twice to Villarreal. They then held Atalanta to a 3-3 draw in their last match, which leaves at the bottom of the group on four points, two behind the third placed Atalanta.
They head to Old Trafford hoping they might surprise the leaders once more, and then hope that Atalanta loses in other Group F fixture to Villarreal as this scenario will have them continue the international adventure in the Europa League.
However, Young Boys have been falling apart in the recent weeks as the Swiss Champs have only managed two wins from their last 11 matches across competitions, picking up three draws and yielding in six matches in the run. Their defence looks extremely pale and weak, allowing two or more goals past them in seven matches during the dreadful period and Manchester United will be ready to exploit the weakness.
