Defending Premier League champions meet the La Liga champions-elect in the last four of the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium for the first leg of Manchester City and Real Madrid’s semi-final on Tuesday.
The Citizens required just one goal to progress past Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals, while Real Madrid ended Chelsea’s hopes of back-to-back European crowns in dramatic fashion.
A goalless draw in the Spanish capital was enough for Man City to progress to the semi-finals for the second season running, but the game was marred by unpleasant scenes at the end.
However, City got the job done on the field before their treble hopes were crashed by Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals, but their thrashing of Watford keeps their dreams of a domestic and continental double very much alive.
Guardiola’s side are unbeaten at the Etihad in the Champions League since a 2-1 defeat to Lyon back in September 2018, and have already scored 13 times in their five home matches in the competition this season and navigated both legs of their Atletico and Sporting Lisbon ties without conceding a single goal.
Real Madrid were forced to overturn a 1-0 deficit to get the better of Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the competitions, but the table nearly turned for them during the visit of Chelsea, who were on the verge of completing a phenomenal comeback from a 3-1 first-leg loss at Stamford Bridge.
Real enter the first leg on a six-game winning run away from home across all competitions, but no side has ever won away against two separate English teams during the knockout rounds of a single Champions League competition.
Tuesday’s first leg will mark the seventh meeting between Real and Man City in the Champions League, with the Citizens claiming a pair of 2-1 victories in the 2019-20 last-16.
Manchester City vs Real Madrid head to head
The two teams have previously met on eight occasions across all competitions, where both have claimed three victories each while they have drawn in two. Both sides have scored 12 goals each in the process. In their last five meetings, City have won three, Real once while they have drawn once.

Manchester City news
Man City will be without Joao Cancelo for the first leg, having picked up his third caution of the competition at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Guardiola will hope to have Kyle Walker back from an ankle issue, while it remains to be seen if John Stones will be available from a muscular injury.
Real Madrid news
Real’s Eder Militao is back from a ban served in the home loss to Chelsea, while David Alaba was taken off with a thigh issue against Osasuna.
Alaba was restricted to indoor work on Saturday alongside Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz, while Casemiro was not ready to return to team training.
Prediction and Odds
Real madrid have been good on their away games against English clubs, and will be confident of securing a first leg advantage at the Etihad.
However, we believe Man City have enough quality to break down a depleted Real backline, and we are backing for a home win on Tuesday.
