Lille vs Chelsea Match Analysis and Prediction

Chelsea will make a trip to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Wednesday to face Lille for the second leg of their last-16 tie.

The Blues secured a 2-0 lead in the first leg at Stamford Bridge and will look to be dominant on the pitch amid unprecedented circumstances off it.

Kai Havertz got his name on the scoresheet after just eight minutes through a header, before Christian Pulisic scored in the 63rd minute tos secure a first-leg advantage.

While Chelsea breached their defence freely, Lille have proven an extremely tough team domestically in recent weeks and recorded their fifth Ligue 1 clean sheet on the bounce against Saint-Etinne.

Lille are currently outsiders when it comes to returning to continental competition next season but have at least developed a much-needed sense of defensive resilience as they aim to turn around the tie and makes the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time ever.

Their only previous appearance in the last-16 ended in defeat at the hands of Manchester United back in 2007, and while Lille will be written off by many for a place in the last eight, they will have lost just one of their last 17 at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in all tournaments.

Despite financial restrictions, Tuchel has insisted that his side will travel to Lille to finish the job, and his players have done an amaizing job of focusing on the task at hand on the pitch in the recent days.

Chelsea continue to consolidate their hold on third place in the Premier League and have now won four successive games in all competitions ahead of Wednesday’s fixture.

The 2-0 victory in the first leg marked a third win from three meetings with Lille for Chelsea, whose only previous visit to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy for a 2019-20 group-stage encounter ended in a 2-1 success.

Lille news

Lille should welcome Benjamin Andre back from illnes in time for the second leg, a timely return with Renato Sanches having sustained another injury against Saint-Etienne.

Gourvennec has not started Burak Yilmaz alongside Jonathan David in recent weeks, but Lille’s need for goals could tempt him reintroduce the Turkish veteran here.

Chelsea news

Reece James and Ben Chilwell remain absent for the long-term, but Tuchel will hope to welcome Cesar Azpilicueta back from illness in time for Wednesday’s game.

Tuchel may recall Marcos Alonso and Christian Pulisic ahead of Malang Sarr and Timo Werner, while Callum Hudson-Odoi is a concern with an Achilles issue.

Prediction and Odds

Lille come into the game with their usual all-out attack as they seek to pull off a surprise comeback, an approach that will leave them vulnerable to the Blues.

Chelsea have recently put together some good performances in all competitions, and we believe they will come out with another win here.
