Juventus host Villarreal at Allianz Stadium in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter on Wednesday night with kickoff at 23:00.
The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at El Madrigal three weeks ago with Dusan Vlahovic opening the scoring in the first minute of game before Dani Parejo pulled it back in the 66th minute. With the away goals rule being scrapped off, means that the Wednesday game offers a chance for either side to progress to the quarter-final.
Juventus have failed to advance past this stage of the tournament in their last three seasons in a row, but will feel like this time round they should be able to as they head into the second-leg in a splendid form, having won all they last four matches across all competitions since the draw in Spain.
Generally, the Old Lady have not lost in their last 12 matches across all competitions while are unbeaten in their last 15 Serie A matches, a run that has seen the m rise up the table and are now seven points off the summit of the table.
They will be looking to extend the run as they aim at extending their life in the competition and a win on Wednesday will also be a confidence-boost ahead of a crucial Serie A stage.
Meanwhile Villarreal couldn’t make it out of the group stage last season, which saw drop to the Europa League and proceeded to claim the title. However, the Yellow Submarine did well this time around as they claimed a second place in Group F to make it to the last-16.
Villarreal have been inconsistent after the first leg with the club claiming two wins and a loss in their last three La Liga matches. Although they warmed up for the Wednesday’s clash with a 1-0 win against Celta Vigo at home last Saturday.
Villarreal have only ever made it as far as the quarter-finals in the competition twice in the their history with the most recently doing so in the 2008-09 campaign. They will be determined to change that this time around with a positive result on Wednesday making this a close and excting encounter.
