Halifax Town vs Chesterfield Match Analysis and Prediction

Halifax Town will be playing Chesterfield in the National League promotion playoffs on Tuesday, with the two sides battling for a spot in thr semi-finals.

The hosts finished fourth behind Solihul Moors in the standings, 10 points above Tuesday’s opponents, while Chesterfield were seventh having collected 74 points from their 44 matches.

Halifax recorded 25 wins, nine draws and 10 losses from their 44 matches during the regular National League campaign to collect 84 points and sit fourth in the table, three points behind third-placed Solihull Moors.

Pete Wild’s side have spent the last five terms in the National League following their promotion from National League North, and it would be some achievement if they could navigate their way through the playoffs to secure a promotion in the Football League.

They enter Tuesday’s contest off the back of a 2-0 defeat at Stockport County on May 15, which followed a 1-1 draw with Aldershot Town in their last home game.

Meanwhile, Chesterfield have spent the last four seasons in the National League following their relegation from the fourth division at the end of 2017-18.

Paul Cook’s side only just managed to reach the playoff spots this season, having picked up 74 points, which left them one point clear of eighth-placed Dagenham & Redbridge.

However, they will not enter this fixture in the best form, having only picked up one point from their final four league matches of the season, a goalless draw at home to Woking last weekend. They lost to Bromley, Stockport County and Torquay United in the latter stages of the regular campaign.

Chesterfield had the fifth-best away record in the 2021-22 campaign, picking up 34 points from 22 matches, but they will be facing a Halifax side with the strongest home record last season, boasting 53 points from their 22 matches at home.

Chesterfield news

Chesterfield have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the contest, and there are not expected to be any major changes in their starting lineup on Tuesday.

Akwasi Asante could be given the nod alongside Saidou Khan, with Nathan Tyson and Tom Denton set to start on the bench for the visitors.

Prediction and Odds

Chesterfield’s form ahead of this match is a real concern and despite not having fresh injury concerns, we find it difficult to back them for a win.

Halifax enter the contest boasting much quality in the final third of the field and we are expecting them to come out with a victory.
