Ferencvaros will take on Tobol at the Groupama Arena in the second leg of their Champions League first qualifying round fixture on Wednesday night.
The fixture is delicately poised at 0-0 as neither side failed to find the back of the net in the first leg last week, but Hungarian reigning champions Ferencvaros will be Wednesday’s favorite due to the home advantage.
Ferencvaros, who played in the group stage of the 2020/21 Champions League, missed out last season as they fell to Young Boys in the playoff round, which saw them drop into the Europa League where they failed to make it through Group G, collecting just three points from their six matches.
Stanislav Cherchesov’s side will therefore be looking to make it to make to Champions League group stages this time around and head into the match in good home mood having beaten Karlsruhe 4-1 in a friendly fixture at home on June 28.
Tobol, meanwhile, won their second Kazakhstan Premier League title last season, and the Kostanay-based outfit are bidding to make the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in their history.
They failed to capitalize on their home advantage in the first leg of this fixture, and now their chances of progressing have declined, although not totally gone. Milan Milanovic’s will look to score the first goal as early as possible to disrupt Ferencvaros’ push for a win.
However, Milanovic’s side suffered humiliating 6-1 loss to Taraz in Kazakhstan Cup, which is enough to throw them off their game on Wednesday.
