Fenerbahce vs Besiktas Match Analysis and Prediction

The Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce and Besiktas will have an encounter at the Estadio Sukru Saracoglu on Sunday as they bid to improve their Super Lig form and climb back into European contention.

The two Turkish outfits will be heading into this clash off the back of contrasting league results, with the Yellow Canaries losing 3-2 to Gaziantep, while the Black Eagles won 4-2 at home against Kayserispor.

Fenerbahce lost the chance to climb into the Champions League places as they lost their game to Gaziantep last weekend.

Mesut Ozil and Miha Zajc both scored for the visitors, however it was the hosts who took the victory of the day, with Joao Figueiredo scoring his second of the game in the 73rd minute, which was the winning goal and condemned Fenerbahce to their fifth league defeat this season.

That result saw Vitor Pereira’s side slip out of the European places and down to fifth in the Super Lig standings, three points behind Konyaspor in the second and 12 points behind league leaders Trabzonspor.

The Yellow Canaries head into Sunday’s derby off the back of an inconsistent run of form, winnind, drawing and losing two games each in their last six league fixtures.

Meanwhile, Besiktas ended their run of five games without a win when they took victory over Kayserispor last weekend, though that results has failed to cover the cracks over their disappointing title defence and European campaign.

Apart from Sunday’s result, they have won just three of their last 16 matches in all competitions, a run which saw Sergen Yalcin relieved of his duties after a 5-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last week.

Besiktas U19 coach will temporarily be in charge for Sunday’s derby against Fenerbahce, and he will be hoping the senior side can replicate last season’s victory at the Estadio Sukru Saracoglu.

Fenerbahce will be missing Enner Valencia through ankle injury and midfielder Mert Hakan Yandas due to muscle injury.

Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is ruled out up until February with a shoulder problem, which will allow Berke Ozer to deputise for him at the goal, with Ozil, Rossi and Serder Dursin starting in attack.
