Both Exeter City and Bradford City will be looking return to winning ways when they face off in the first round of the FA Cup for the third time this month after an unexpected extraordinary turnaround of events. The fixture is scheduled to take place at the St James Park on Tuesday night with kickoff at 22:45.
Exeter seemed to have sealed their place in the second round of the FA Cup following their energetic 3-0 victory over Bradford in their first-round replay on November 16. However, the result was ultimately declared null and void after it was found that Exeter had used a sixth substitute at the start of extra-time. Matt Taylor made the permitted five changes in the 90 minutes of the match, but then introduced Josh Key for Sam Nombe at the start of extra totaling the number of subs to six which is against the rules and as result the match will be replayed on Tuesday night.
Matt Taylor’s side head into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw with Rochdale in League Two last Saturday and prior to that they were coming off a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Colchester and hence will be looking to bounce back to winning ways in this match that will provide them confidence going into the next League Two fixture against Northampton.
Meanwhile Bradford will take this a vital second chance changing what they did wrong in the first-round replay as they look to extend their life in the FA Cup. It will be shameful to suffer another defeat of more than two goals in this fixture after being granted a second chance to redeem themselves.
Derek Adams’ side enters the match off the back of a 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe United in League Two on Saturday. The draw meant that Bradford have now recorded a four-match winless run I League Two, a run that has seen them drop to the 12th spot in the table.
They therefore will be looking to bounce back as they aim at taking full advantage of the lifeline that has been provided to them in incredible circumstances.
