Emelec and Atletico Mineiro will get their Copa Libertadores round of 16 underway when they face off in the first leg at the Estadio Banco del Pacifico Capwell on Tuesday night.
Emelec managed to book a place in the knockout stages after bettering Independiente Petrolero on the final day of the group stage. A 7-0 victory saw them finish runners-up on Group A on eight points from six matches, one point above third-placed Deportivo Tachira.
They will now be looking to keep the juggernaut rolling in Copa Libertadores, but they will need to be at their best having only won one in their last six games across all competitions. They are coming off a 1-1 draw against Tecnico Uni in their domestic league campaign and will want to bounce back here.
Meanwhile Atletico Mineiro booked their place in the knockout stages after finish top of Group D on goal-difference as they finished level on 11 points with second-placed Deportes Tolima. They enjoyed an unbeaten run in their opening five games before falling to a 2-1 defeat to Tolima.
The Brazilians are eyeing their second continental crown after winning their first in 2013. They come into the match in a good form having won all their last three matches in Brasileiro Serie A and Copa do Brasil.
They will look to pick up a fourth consecutive win on Tuesday and place one foot in the quarter-finals, but they will need to improve their away form having managed just one win in their last five away games across all competitions.
