Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt will begin their 2022/23 Champions League campaign when they welcome Sporting Lisbon to Commerzbank Arena on Wednesday night.
On the back of their Europa League winning season, Eintracht Frankfurt were given a raincheck by Bayern Munich following a 6-0 defeat on the opening day of the new season.
However, Oliver Glasner’s side has managed to slowly turn around their fortunes as they are now coming off a four-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga, including back-to-back victories against Bremen (4-3) at away and Leipzig (4-0) at home.
The latter victory is a massive confidence-booster ahead of their opening Champions League opener on Wednesday as Frankfurt will look to build on it and pick up three points in an their arguably winnable to in Group D, that also consists of Tottenham and Marseille.
Meanwhile Sporting Lisbon have certainly not enjoyed their start in the Portugal’s top flight as they have only won two of their opening five games and have lost two of the last three.
They are however coming off a 2-0 away win over Estoril, a win they will be hoping to build on Wednesday, but they will surely met a more insane atmosphere in Germany and will be ask for them to get the result on Wednesday. They should however not to be completely ruled out of this clash.
