Copa Sudamericana returns with the first leg of the last 16 round as Colo-Colo host International at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano on Wednesday morning with kickoff at 03:30 EAT.
Colo-Colo found were send parking to the Copa Sudamericana after suffering 4-3 defeat to Fortaleza on the final group day of the Copa Libertadores on May 25. The defeat saw them finish third in Group F on seven points from six matches three points behind both River Plate and Fortaleza.
Colo-Colo now will be joining the Sudamericana and will be looking to go all the way to the final of the competition for the first time since 2006. They are coming off a confidence boosting 5-1 away win over Temuco in the Chilean Cup, where they have reached the last eight.
Daniel Moron’s side have kept three clean sheets in three of their last four home matches and looking to maintain their defensive solidity as they seek a positive result on Wednesday.
Meanwhile Internacional booked their place in the last 16 of the Copa Sudamericana following a thumping 5-1 win over 9 de Octubre in their final group match of the competition. The victory saw them finish on top Group E on 12 points from six matches, two points above Guairena.
Ever since Internacional have been in a good form loosing just one of their seven Brasileiro Serie A games, while picking up four victories and two draws in the run.
Mano Menezes’ side are also coming off a confidence boosting 3-0 win at home against Coritiba in the domestic campaign, which saw them bounce back from a 3-2 home defeat to Botafogo. They will now be looking to build on the win as they look to gain an advantage over Colo-Colo before the second leg at home.
