Bayern Munich vs Barcelona Match Analysis and Prediction

Two of the biggest clubs in European football will go head to head in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Bayern Munich playing host to Barcelona in Group C.

The hosts opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory at Inter Milan last Wednesday, while Barcelona won 5-1 over Viktoria Plzen at Camp Nou in their first game of the 2022-23 tournament.

Bayern were surprisingly eliminated in the quarter-finals of last season’s Champions League by Villarreal ,but they are six-time winners of this competition, with their last triumph coming in 2019-20, when they won 1-0 over Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side will agains be regarded as favourites to win this season, and they made the perfect start to their Group C campaign last week.

However, they have not been victorious in the Bundesliga since August 21, drawing each of their last three matches against Borussia Monchengladbach, Union Berlin and Stuttgart.

Meanwhile, Barcelona failed to make it through the group stages of last season’s Champions League for just the fourth time in their history, and it proved to be their first exit at that stage since the 2000-01 campaign.

There was no getting away from the fact that 202-22 was a testing season for Xavi’s side, but an impressive summer transfer window has contributed to a strong start to this campaign.

Barcelona beat Viktoria Plzen 5-1 in their Champions League opener last week, with Robert Lewandowski grabbing a hat-trick, and the Poland international will now take on the club that he left over the summer following 344 goals in 375 apprearances.

Barca also won 4-0 over Cadiz in La Liga on Saturday, which temporarily moved them to the top of the table, and they have now been victorious in their five matches across all competitions heading into Tuesday’s showdown.

Bayern will again be without Bouna Sarr and Kingsley Coman for this contest, but the hosts did not pick up any fresh fitness issues against Stuttgart.

Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane are both expected back in the final third of the pitch, while Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard should return to the defence.

Despite missing out against Cadiz on Saturday with a slight muscular problem, Sergi Roberto is set to be included in a 25-man squad who will travel to Munich.

Barcelona are currently on a strong run of form, but it is very difficult to back them over a Bayern Munich side who also kicked of their Champions League campaign on a positive note.

It would not be a surprise to see a home victory, but we anticipate they will settle for a draw.
