After causing an upsetting shock in the Champions League’s opening week, Dinamo Zagreb will be looking for another major scalp on Wednesday, as they take on AC Milan as San Siro.
Following Dinamo’s victory over Chelsea and Milan’s draw in Salzburg, Group E apparantly remains wide open, with the hosts having secured victory with 10 men at the weekend while their visitors arrive in Italy off the back of six straight wins.
After a disappointing group-stage exit upon their long-awaited Champions League return last year, Milan began their latest quest for an eighth European title last week as Italian champions.
Stefano Pioli’s side are now eager to translate last year’s domestic success onto the continental stage. However, they found themselves held to a 1-1 draw by RB Salzburg after a close-fought encounter in Austria.
However, in Serie A, the Rossoneri have enjoyed back-to-back victories over the past fortnight, as they followed derby-day victory against Inter with a comeback away to Sampdoria on Saturday, playing for most of the second half with only 10 men at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
This encounter sees Dinamo fresh off the back of a famous victory on Group E’s opening night, as they defeated 2021 European champions Chelsea as Stadion Maksimir last week, the fifth of six victories in a row for the Craotian side.
Having last featured in the group stage back in 2019, progression to the quarter-finals of the 2021-22 Europa League clearly roused the appetite for subsequent wins over West Ham and Sevilla in last season’s competition.
Since securing their fourth consecutive Croatian championship last season, Dinamo have progressed past Shkupi, Ludogorets Razgrad and Bodo/Glimt in Champions League qualifying, and after their 1-0 victory over HNK Gorica on Saturday, Damir Krznar’s side are sitting at the top of the HNL table once again.

AC Milan news
Pioli will have long-term absentees Alessandro Florenzi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic unavailable, with Ante Rebic, Divock Origi and Rade Krunic also expected to miss out.
Tommaso Pobega and Simon Kjaer are expected to make way for Fikayo Tomori and Ismael Bennacer, while Sergino Dest could make his first start for Milan.
Dinamo Zagreb news
Krznar should name a starting XI similar to that which surprised Chelsea last week, with both Mislav Orsic and Bruno Petkovic expected to start in attack.
Experienced duo of Kevin Theophile-Catherine and Josip Drmic may be relegated to the bench, as Krznar shifts to a probable three-man central defence for this contest.
Prediction and Odds
AC Milan enter the contest with a record of seven competitive matches without defeat, and will feel confident of extending that run on their home turf.
However, victory will not come easily, as Dinamo possess several players with European experience and could score at least once to push the hosts close.
