Sweden are set to take on Greece in their sixth round of Group B of the UEFA World Cup qualifiers at the Friends Arena on Tuesday with kickoff at 21:45.
Sweden have had an impressive World Cup qualifying campaign so far, having won four and lost one of their five games in Group B to collect 12 points that have left them in the second place with only a point behind group leaders Spain who have played one match more. Therefore, a win on Tuesday could see Sweden wait for the two deciding games at the top spot.
Jan Andersson’s side head into the match in a strong form having won 10, drawn one and lost just two of their last 13 matches across all competitions and have collected seven clean sheets in the process. The Blue and yellows managed to bounce back from their disappointing 2-1 defeat in Greece last moth with an impressive 3-0 win against Kosovo in Solna with Emil Forsberg, Alexander Isak and Robin Quaison getting the goals.
Andersson will want his side to continue their momentum in the Tuesday’s clash as a revenge could get them nicely on top of Group B and increase their chances of booking a place in Qatar next year.
Meanwhile Greece have also made a solid World Cup qualifying campaign as they are the only Group B side that still remains unbeaten so far. The visitors have registered two wins and three draws in their five matches collecting nine points, which have left them in the third spot only three behind their second-placed hosts.
Therefore, with only two matches remaining a win in this contest could give the Greeks realistic chances of a top-two finish, making the match pretty crucial for both sides.
Greece head into the match off the back of two back-to-back victories against Sweden and Georgia. Also, John van’t Schip’s side are in a strong form having only lost one of their last 14 matches across all competitions, while recording seven wins and six draws and have kept five clean sheets in the process.
