Sevilla welcome West Ham United to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for what will be among the interesting Europa League last-16 first leg on Thursday night with kickoff at 20:45.
Sevilla made it to the last-16 of the competition through the knockout playoffs after finishing third in Group G of the Champions League. They overcame Dinamo Zagreb 3-2 in the playoffs and pose a great threat to West Ham’s European endeavors.
However, they have been inconsistent lately claiming three wins from their last 10 matches across all competitions and they continued the inconsistency last time out as they were held to 0-0 draw by Alaves in La Liga last Friday. Although, Los Sevillanos are a real force to be reckoned with at home, having not lost any of their last 10 matches at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and have won all their last three matches on home soil.
They will be looking to find form in the Thursday’s clash as they also seek to go through to the end of the competition.
Meanwhile West Ham United began their Europa League campaign in the group stage, where they enjoyed a fine run finishing on top Group H with 13 points from six matches.
However, West Ham have been inconsistent ever since and have most recently have won just one of their last five fixtures across all competitions, with successive defeats being recorded at Southampton and Liverpool.
The defeat to Liverpool left them outside the premier League top four and now sit in sixth with three points behind the fourth-placed Arsenal, who have two three matches in hand. David Moyes will therefore start seeing this competition as his way of making it to the Champions League next season.
Although to make it to the end, the Hammers will have to turn around their form and overcome the toughest test possible that is Sevilla in the last-16.
