Sevilla will be welcoming Barcelona on Tuesday having recorded three successive victories in La Liga, the most recent coming against Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona will travel to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium on the back of a 3-2 victory over struggling Elche.
Sevilla bowed out of the Champions League and narrowly avoided an exit to Andratx in the Copa del Rey, and Julen Lopetegui cannot be be satisfied with his team’s recent efforts.
However, three victories in a row in the league have created distance between themselves and the chasing pack, having defeated Villarreal, Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid respectively.
Sevilla had been level 1-1 with Atletico Madrid before Lucas Ocampos scored two minutes from time, having now scored five goals and two assists during his last nine outings.
Having the best defensive record in the league, Lopetegui will be confident of recording another three points, but playing Barcelona after Atletico in a span of three days would proof one step far.
Manager Xavi has had a hard time to his start back at his former club, with Barcelona failing to win convincingly in any of his seven matches in all competitions.
However, when taking everything into consideration, 10 points from a possible 15 is respectable enough, which has left Barcelona within touching distance of the top four.
Xavi will expect to have work in progress throughout the campaign to get the best out of a line-up of youngsters, but three of them were able to get on the scoresheet during the 3-2 defeat over Elche.
Seventeen-year-old Barcelona midfielder Pablo Gavira – who is also known as Gavi- has been the team’s outstanding performer recently, although it would altogether be unfair to single out one playmaker when so many other prospects have made an impact during the last few weeks of the campaign.
