Round seven of the Spanish La Liga comes to a close on Monday when Rayo Vallecano and Elche go head to head at the Estadoi de Vallecas.
The visitors head into the contest as they only side yet to pick up a win in the 2022-23 campaign and will be looking to end this poor run of results.
Rayo Vallecano’s bid to pick up a morale-boosting result before the return of La Liga football ended in disappointmen as they fell to a 1-0 friendly defeat to lower-tier Fuenlabrada two Thursdays ago.
Los Franjirrojos now turn their attention to La Liga where they were denied their first back-to-back victory since April as they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Athletic Bilbao when the teams met at the San Mames Barria on September 17.
Prior to that, Andoni Iraola’s side secured their first home win of the season on September 10 when a fifth-minute goal from Isi Palazon and a Nicolas Gonzalez second-half own goal helped they secure a 2-1 victory over Valencia and end their two-game losing run.
Meanwhile, Elche hit a new low in what had been a poor start to the season as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona when the teams met at Camp Nou two Saturdays ago.
Francisco Rodriguez’s side have now lost each of their four most recent matches, scoring once and conceding 12 goals, while they have collected just one point from their six matches this season, with their last victory coming on August 7 over La Nucia in their final pre-season game.
Los Franjiverdes are currently rock-bottom in the league standings and their underwhelming start to the season has been owing to their struggles at both ends of the pitch as they have scored just two goals and hold the league’s worst defensive record, with 16 goals already conceded.

Rayo Vallecano news
Rayo Vallecano will be without the services of attacking duo of Andras Martin and Salvi Sanchez, who have been sidelined with shoulder and calf injuries respectively.
Pep Chaverria has missed the last five matches through injury and the full-back, who completed a summer move from Real Zaragoza, is out of contention.
Elche news
Elche will take to the pitch without Verdu, who will serve the first of a three-game suspension for picking up a straight red card against Barcelona.
Defender Pedro Bigas and Omar Mascarell will play no part in Monday’s contest as they are currently recuperating from Achilles tendon and groin issues respectively.
Prediction and Odds
Elche have had a tough start to the season and will set out to secure their first win of the campaign on Monday.
However, they have managed just three wins in 12 away matches this year, but given their fine record against Rayo Vallecano, we predict they will hold out for a draw.
