Sassuolo vs Hellas Verona Match Analysis and Prediction

Sampdoria will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they play host to struggling Hellas Verona at the Mapei Stadium on Monday.

While the hosts lost to Atalanta and Inter Milan in their last two matches, they still sit seven points clear of their visitors, who were most recently beaten by AC Milan.

Despite taking the lead against their second-placed opponents, Sassuolo’s trip to Bergamo last week ended in defeat, as Giorgos Kryiakopoulos saw the advantage gained from his 41st-minute goal soon lost.

Goals either side of half time allowed Atalanta to pull of a quick comeback and Sassuolo eventually suffered a 2-1 defeat, leaving them ninth in the standings after 10 matches.

Having also lost their last home game to Inter by the same scoreline, they now aim to avoid losing successive matches at the Mapei Stadium for the first time under Alessio Dionisi.

With five clean sheets so far, Sassuolo have already recorded two more than all of last season, when Dionisi struggled to live up to heightened expectations brought about by his side’s successful spell, though they leaked seven goals in recent defeats to Atalanta, Inter and Udinese.

Since claiming a 4-2 victory over Sampdoria at the start of the year, Hellas Verona have enjoyed and endured the steep ups and downs that life in Serie A can entail.

Gabriele Cioffi’s side have lost each of their last five league matches, only twice in their top-flight history have they lost more games in a row, and have never since a run of seven defeats in the spring of 2018.

Verona have conceded at least once in their last 17 league matches, which represents the club’s worst such run for over 20 years. The sixth time they have done so came at home to AC Milan last time out.

Sassuolo news

Domenico Berardi remains absent for Sassuolo with a muscular injury, and Armand Lauriente joins him on the sidelines, but Giorgos Kyriakopoulos should start in the front three.

Janis Antiste and Luca D’Andrea are other options, while Hamed Traore recently returned to full training and has scored in both of his last two matches against Verona.

Hellas Verona news

Hellas Verona have a long list of injuries, which includes Josh Doig, Diego Coppola and Ivan Ilic, but Thomas Henry is likely to lead the line up front.

The injured Darko Lazovic will be particularly missed for this contest after he previously scored twice against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium.

Prediction and Odds

These two sides have each won three of their seven Serie A matches in Reggio Emilia, and there have been 26 goals in the process.

However, Hellas Verona now arrive without an away win to their name this season, and they are likely to be defeated given their lack of threat up front.
