Real Sociedad will play host to Getafe on Sunday, having finally seen their winless run in La Liga come to an end with a victory over Celta Vigo.
The hosts are currently sitting 5th in La Liga standings, with 33 points from their 20 matches, while Getafe are now four points clear of the relegation zone after thier recent resurgence.
Real Sociedad ended 2021 with a four-match losing streak, a run of results which had the potential to see them left out in the race for the Champions League.
However, the Christmas break came at the ideal time for the White and Blues, who have responded by picking up four points from fixtures against Alaves and Celta Vigo.
Imanol Alguacil’s side would have hoped for a maximum return, but it is at least a ste in the right direction, further aided by their form in the Copa del Rey.
Los Txuri-urdin got the better of La Liga champions Atletico Madrid earlier this week, Alexander Sorloth and Adnan Januzaj getting on the scoresheet to secure a significant win for their side.
Having now been unbeaten in four games in all competitions, Alguacil will expect his team to extend that run against Getafe, potentially securing a return to the top four in thr process.
Meanwhile, Getafe have been excellent over the last four matches, their only defeat coming by a 1-0 scoreline away at Sevilla.
Quique Sanchez Flores has set in motion a change in fortunes at Coliseum Alfonso Perez, his side winning three home matches in succession against Osasuna, Real Madrid and Granada.
Although they have build up some distance between themselves and the bottom three, two of Getafe’s next three games are away at Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid, ensuring that satisfaction will not become a factor in the short term.
