Last season J1 League champions have made a perfect start to the new campaign, with the team winning both their opening two matches against Kawasaki Frontale and Urawa Red Diamonds.

They are now jointly at the top of the league with Vissel Kobe and Nagoya with six points and they will hope to maintain their position with another positive result on Friday. Sanfrecce Hiroshima are always a tough opponent for Marinos, but they should fancy their chances on Friday as the last time they met Hiroshima at home they won 3-0.

Sanfrecce, meanwhile, have enjoyed a difficult start to the 2023 campaign, as they followed a 0-0 draw against Sapporo on the opening day with a 2-1 home defeat to Albirex last weekend.

They now sit 14th on one point and will want to improve their position with a positive result on Friday. They beat Marinos in the J.League Cup in both legs of the quarter final and will seek to maintain that run here.
