Blackburn Rovers will be looking for the win that will ensure they remain in third place in the Championship when they make the trip to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland on Boxing Day.
Meanwhile, Tony Mowbray faces his former club with the Black Cats down in 13th spot, although just three points adrift of the playoff.
Mowbray has already renewed acquintances with Blackburn since his departure in the summer, overseeing a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture at Ewood Park on October 18.

Off the back of suffering a 4-1 defeat to Preston North End, Jon Dahl Tomasson may have had concerns ahead of the visit to Norwich City, yet his side were fantastic as they returned from Carrow Road with a 2-0 victory.
Retaining third place in the standings, the pressure was off to a certain extent as Blackburn faced Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup fourth round with the realistic possibility of earning another Premier League scalp.
However, Forest thoroughly outclassed their hosts, condemning them to a second successive 4-1 defeat at Ewood Park, and it leaves Tomasson aware that he has plenty of work ahead if Blackburn are to remain in contention for automatic promotion against the odds.
