South Africa vs Mozambique Match Analysis & Prediction
17/11/2022 9:30 pm
While 32 nations are preparing for the 2022 World Cup to be played in Qatar, South Africa entertain the challenge of Mozambique in an international friendly.
The hosts will be looking to record a third successive victory, while the visitors set out to preserve a four-game unbeaten run heading into the contest.
South Africa got the better of Botswana through a 1-0 victory when the teams met at the First National Bank Stadium on September 27.
The Bafana Bafana took the lead seven minutes before half time through Teboho Mokoena and that proved enough to come out on top from a hard-fought contest.
Hugo Broos’ side have now won successive matches off the back of back-to-back defeats in their African Nations Championship qualifying tie against Angola.
Next up for South Africa in the task of facing off against an opposing side with just one victory in the last five meetings between the teams since 2012.
However, that win did come in the most recent encounter back in July as South Africa were beaten on penalties in the quarter-finals of the COSAFA Cup.
Meanwhile, Mozambique secured their spot at next year’s CHAN tournament on away goals through a 1-1 aggregate score against Malawi over two legs.
Os Mambas played out a 1-1 draw away from home on August 27 before completing the job with a goalless stalemate on September 4 in their last match.
As a result, Chiquinho Conde’s side have now failed to taste defeat since losing their COSAFA Cup third-place contest against Senegal through a penalty shootout back in July.
Having recorded three clean sheets in their last four matches, Os Mambas will be looking to put on another solid defensive display en route to a positive result, and will take courage from the last game of this fixture.
South Africa vs. Mozambique Head to head
These two nations have previously met on six occasions across all competitions, where South Africa have claimed four victories while Mozambique have won one, and they have drawn once. Mozambique have scored two goals and conceded 11 in the process. Mozambique won through penalties in their last meeting in the COSAFA Cup.
