Off the back of a three-game unbeaten run, Newell’s Old Boys play host to Argentinos Juniors at the Estadio Marcelo Alberto Bielsa on Tuesday.
The visitors enter the contest on a run of three straight wins against La Lepra and look to maintain that record.
Newell’s Old Boys extended their fine start to the new Primera Division campaign as they picked up a 1-0 victory over Talleres on Tuesday.
In the game at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, Ramiro Sordo’s opening-minute goal proved enough to separate the sides as the hosts were condemned to a second straight defeat.
Prior to that, La Lepra kicked off the campaign with a 2-1 win at Banfield on June 4 before returning to home soil to play out a goalless draw with San Lorenzo six days later.
Javier Sanguinetti’s side head into the contest having won four of their six most recent home league game stretching back to March 6.
While Newell’s Old Boys will look to keep the good run of form rolling, next up is the challenge of an opposing side against whom they have suffered defeat in each of their three meetings since 2019.
Argentinos Juniors also returned to winning ways last time out when they managed to defeat Independiente 2-1 on home turf.
Thiago Nuss and Fausto Vera netted either side of Leandro Benegas’ 44th-minute equaliser to earn their side all three points at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona.
El Bicho have now won two of their opening three matches, scoring four goals and conceding three, with a 1-0 defeat at Sarmiento on June 11 being the exception.
Gabriel Milito’s side have failed to taste victory away from home in six successive Primera Division matches, picking up just one point from a possible 18 since claiming a 1-0 win over Rosario Central back in November.
