Monza vs AC Milan Match Analysis & Prediction

18/02/2023 8:00 pm

After steadying the ship with wins at home and in Europe, AC Milan will look to keep momentum building when they visit Monza on Saturday.
The two clubs come from different stratospheres in history, but only five places separate them in the Serie A standings due to Milan’s recent wobble and Monza’s fine start to 2023.
After a seven-game winless run which included two defeats to arch-rivals Inter, Milan returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Torino last Friday and set up an intriguing second leg in London next month.
The Rossoneri had been absent from the latter stages of Europe’s top competition for nine years but edged a close encounter at San Siro on Tuesday when they took a one-goal lead against last-16 opponents Tottenham Hotspur.
The Monza club is threatening to upset the established order in Lombardy, having recovered from a sluggish start to the season.
The Biancorossi’s subsequent revival has featured an impressive draw with Inter and last month’s 3-2 win at Cremonese.
Architects of Monza’s rise are former Milan owners Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani; their current club welcomes the Scudetto holders to Stadio Brianteo on Saturday, where they can have every hope of witnessing a historic victory for themselves.

Meanwhile, Monza striker Andrea Petagna scored and then assisted in his last two outings. He should be retained in a settled home side captained by Matteo Pessina – who spent time in Milan’s primavera but never played for the first team – and features heavily in midfield.

AC Milan Team News
Despite Mike, Maignan being out and Alessandro Florenzi only making the bench, Milan’s injury list continues to shorten. Fikayo Tomori will be available to play, and Ismael Bennacer could also feature at some stage. However, he would join Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the bench if he did play. Therefore, Sandro Tonali should again be joined by Rade Krunic in central midfield.
