Lorient vs Rennes Match Analysis & Prediction

27/01/2023 11:00 pm

Lorient will be looking to close the gap between themselves and a place in Europe when the host Rennes on Friday.
The hosts are seventh in the table after a 3-1 league defeat at Marseille, leaving them five points behind the visitors, who upset Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in their previous game.
With 32 points after 19 league matches, it is the highest tally ever for Lorient at this stage of the season, putting them in contention to potentially compete in Europe for only the second time in their history.
Not counting the friendlies played during the World Cup break, Regis Le Bris has seen his side win just three of their previous 10 matches across all competitions, progressing into the last 16 of the Coupe de France on penalties against Bastia.
Lorient have only suffered one defeat in this competition when scoring multiple goals in a single game, though they have conceded in every league match since drawing Reims 0-0 in mid-October.
Rennes exited the Coupe de France last weekend, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Marseille and have not won successive matches in the league since securing back-to-back wins to wrap up the month of October.
They have not won an away game in any competition since beating Angers 2-1 through an injury-time penalty in October, and are currently fifth in the standings, five points adrift of potential Champions League spot.
While Rennes lost their previous meeting against Lorient, they have not suffered successive defeats against them since the 2010-11 Ligue 1 campaign.
At the moment, Rennes have picked up 37 points domestically, their best return at this stage of a Ligue 1 campaign, while also scoring 36 goals, the most for this club after 19 matches since 1965-66 (39).
Lorient vs. Rennes Head to head
In the 40 previous meetings between these two sides across all competitions, Lorient have claimed eight victories while Rennes have won 22, and they have drawn in 10. Rennes have scored 63 goals and conceded 31 in the process.
