Lorient vs Monaco Match Analysis & Prediction

11/01/2023 11:00 pm

Lorient play host to Monaco on Wednesday with a cahnce to leapfrog them for a Europa Conference League qualifying spot next season.
While the hosts advanced beyond the round of 64 at the Coupe de France through a 6-0 victory over La Chataigneraie, Monaco were upset on penalties by Rodez in a game which ended 2-2 after normal time.
Lorient’s 6-0 victory over the weekend was the most significant margin of success in a single game for them since beating Bourg-en-Bresse by that same scoreline in a Ligue 2 encounter during the 2017-18 season.
Wednesday will be the first time since early November that they face a team in the top five of Ligue 1, with Regis Le Bris’ side losing two of their three matches against those sides so far in 2022-23, beating Rennes 1-0 to begin the campaign.
Meanwhile, Monaco boss Philippe Clement referred the shock defeat at Coupe de France last weekend to a second-tier side as unacceptable, their earliest exit from that competition since 2012 and the first time all season they had lost when leading by two goals.
While they gave up two in their previous away game in this competition against Auxerre, Monaco have lost just one league matches on the road this season, while four of their six clean sheets have come outside of the Principality.
Monaco have not suffered more than three defeats from January until May in each of their previous two domestic campaigns, and they have won nine of their 12 Ligue 1 matches played since the beginning of September.
Lorient vs. Monaco Head to head
