Crewe Alexandra vs Doncaster Rovers Match Analysis & Prediction

06/05/2024 7:30 pm

Crewe Alexandra will play host to Doncaster Rovers at the Mornflake Stadium for Monday’s first leg in the League Two playoff semi-finals.
The hosts finished the campaign in sixth place with 71 points to their name, while the visitors finished in fifth position due to their narrow goal difference advantage.
Crewe finished the season in sixth place after Elliott Nevitt scored a 92nd-minute equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw in their away encounter with Colchester United.
Having secured their place in the top seven, Crewe are now dreaming of returning to League One for the first time since being relegated in 2021-22.
While they will be pleased to be in the playoffs, Lee Bell’s side will head into the semi-finals off the back of an underwhelming run of form which has seen them win just one of their last nine matches.
The Railwaymen have struggled in recent matches at the Mornflake Stadium, losing 3-0 in each of their last three home matches against Forest Green Rovers, Grimsby Town and Wrexham.
Meanwhile, after drawing 1-1 with Bradford City on March 5, Doncaster were languishing in 20th position and 14 points adrift of the top seven with 11 games left to play.
Instead of letting the season peter out, Rovers put together an impressive 10-game winning run to climb up the table and move into fifth place before their final-day encounter with Gillingham.
Despite giving up a two-goal lead to draw with Gillingham, Doncaster were still able to hold onto fifth position, ensuring that they will have home advantage for Friday’s return leg.
Although a draw on Monday could represent a positive result, Grant McCann’s side will have aspirations of securing their first away win over Crewe since winning 2-1 in April 2013.
Crewe Alexandra vs. Doncaster Rovers Head to head
In the previous 26 meetings between these two teams, Crewe have claimed 11 victories while Doncaster have won 10, and they have drawn in five. Doncaster have scored 39 goals and conceded 36 in the process.
