Cagliari will look to put to an end to their five-match losing streak when they take on Sassuolo at Unipol Domus in their Serie A matchday 33 encounter on Saturday afternoon with kickoff at 13:30 EAT.
Cagliari were left empty handed again in Serie A as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Juventus last time out. They have now lost each of their last five league matches in a row a run that has seen them fail to climb away from the relegation zone ever since climbing out of it back in February.
They still are three points outside the danger zone in 17th place on 25 points from 32 matches, although they have played one match more than the 18th-placed Venezia. With now six matches only remaining to go Walter Mazzarri’s side need to bounce back to winning ways as soon as possible to increase their chances of survival.
In their way this weekend stands the high-flying Sassuolo, who they have not beaten in their last 11 meetings and fall to them with a narrow 1-0 when they last met in January in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia.
Sassuolo managed to quickly bounce back to winning ways from their 2-1 defeat to Lazio on April second with a 2-1 victory against Atalanta at home last Sunday thanks to a brace from the inform Hamed Traore.
Alessio Dionisi’s men have now just suffered one defeat in their last eight Serie A matches, claiming five victories and two draws in the run, and they last weekend’s victory saw them climb up to ninth in the table. However, they are still some nine points off the European places and need to continue their winning form to stand a chance of reducing the gap.
As mentioned earlier Sassuolo are unbeaten against Cagliari in their last 11 encounters, but seven of those ended in a share of the spoils which includes the 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Therefore this could be another share of the spoils but Sassuolo will be a more confident bunch.
