Auxerre vs Lyon Match Analysis & Prediction

17/02/2023 11:00 pm

Auxerre have the chance to defeat Lyon in a Ligue 1 game for the first time over a decade when the two teams meet at Stade de I’Abbe Deschamps on Friday.
Last weekend, Auxerre played out a 1-1 draw with Angers but remained in the relegation zone, while Lyon are unbeaten in four successive domestic matches, beating Lens 201 on Sunday.
Christophe Pelissier has only picked up one victory in his 11 domestic matches in charge following the sacking of Jean-Marc Furlan in early October, with his side conceding in all but one of his league games since taking charge.
So far this season, Auxerre have conceded 47 goals in Ligue 1, the second-most behind only Angers (48), although all three of their clean sheets in the top flight have come at home.
Two of their three wins in Ligue 1 this season have also come on home turf, although they have only beaten Lyon at home twice this century, the last time being during the 2010-11 campaign, when they won 4-0.
Things are steadily progressing at Lyon under Laurent Blanc as they are playing perhaps their best football of the campaign, one result away fro equalling their longest unbeaten run in Ligue 1 this season.
Their recent victory over Lens was the first for them this season against a side currently in the top four after losing their first four matches of that kind previously to PSG, Monaco, Marseille and Lens.
Lyon have won three of their four matches played in Ligue 1 this season against newly-promoted sides, with their worst result being a 1-1 draw against Toulouse last October, while beating Auxerre at home back in August.
Auxerre vs. Lyon Head to head
In the 38 previous meetings between these two teams, Auxerre have claimed seven victories while Lyon have won 23, and they have drawn in eight. Lyon have scored 58 goals and conceded 34 in the process.
