Nantes battle Brest at the Stade de la Beaujoire in the last 16 of Coupe de France on Friday night with kickoff at 23:00.
Nantes began their Coupe de France in the third round where they nearly fell out for the second consecutive year, but they managed to advance to the next stage requiring penalties to get past Ligue 2’s Sochaux.
Things were a bit calmer in the fourth round as Les Canaris comfortably saw off fourth-tier Vitre in a 2-0 victory with Ludovic Blas and Willem Geubbles securing the goals.
Now in the round of sixteen Nantes face a top-tier side in a trick fixture that will test their mettle as they aim to through to the end this time around. Antoine Kombouare’s men will be in high spirits heading into the match as they are coming off a vital 4-2 victory against Lorient in a thrilling Brenton derby in Ligue 1.
The win saw them bounce back from their two-match winless run in the league and they will be looking to keep the momentum going.
Meanwhile Stade Brest 29 also kicked of their Coupe de France campaign in the third round where they also needed penalties to knockout Dinan Lehon with the shoots extending to 13-12.
However, things were also way better for Brest in the fourth round where they cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory against fellow top-tier opponent Bordeaux with Steve Mounie, Romain Faivre and Jeremy Le Douaron getting on the scoresheet.
Now in the fifth round where they face another top-tier opponent Brest will be hoping for the same result as they aim to advance to the quarter-finals.
Les Pirates also head into the match in high spirits after bouncing back from their four-match winless run in Ligue 1 with a 2-0 victory against Lille in their previous league outing. The victory is a massive confidence boaster for the Michel Der Zakarian’s side who will be looking to keep the momentum going.
The will therefore be a close fight with both going for a win, but the home side will fancy their chances as they have not lost to their visitors in their last four meetings and during last six encounters with Nantes playing at home, they have claimed five victories while Brest won just once and the goal difference is 15-6 in favor of Nantes. They will want to keep the form.
