Nancy will battle fellow Ligue 2 outfits Amiens SC for a place in the last eight of the Coupe de France at the Stade Marcel-Picot on Saturday evening with kickoff at 18:15.
Nancy began their Coupe de France campaign in the first round where they knocked out an FM21 outfit Lorraine de Plantieres with a 3-1 victory, and then proceeded to see out Soleil Bischheim in the second round following a 1-0 win. They then then faced tricky games in the third and fourth rounds as they came up against Ligue 1 outfits, starting with Troyes in the third round where Albert Cartier’s men won 4-2 on penalties following 1-1 draw, before seeing out Rennes in the fourth round winning 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at full time.
Nancy have done well in the Coupe de France this season as the side has already achieved their best finish in the tournament since reaching the quarter-finals of the 2012-13 season and will be looking to go further-up the tournament.
However, Cartier’s men head into the match in low spirits as they are coming off 4-0 defeat to Ligue 2 leaders Toulouse with Nancy’s center back Thomas Basila getting himself sent off early in the match costing his side. The defeat saw Nancy drift further away from safety as they currently are rock-bottom of Ligue 2 standings with seven now seven points away from safety.
Now taking a break from league action Nancy will be looking to bounce back as they search for confidence to face their relegation battle.
Meanwhile Amiens began their Coupe de France campaign in the first round where they knocked out Anzin-Saint-Aubin in a 5-0 victory and then proceeded to see out Cambrai in the second round with a 4-1 victory. In the third round Amiens played fellow Ligue 2 outfit Guingamp who they beat 3-2 on the day before needing penalties to knock out Linas-Montlhery (4-3) after a 3-3 draw in full time, to make it to last 16.
Philippe Hinschberger’s side will be looking to go through to the end for the first time since 2001 where they lost to Strasbourg in the final.
They head into the match in a good form having only lost one of their last four matches across all competitions and are coming off a 1-1 draw against Quevilly-Roune, which made their second consecutive unbeaten match on the bounce.
They will be looking to build on their momentum, which they will need for their Ligue 1 campaign as they currently sit in 13th with eight points above the relegation zone.
