Millwall vs Watford Match Analysis and Prediction

Watford make a trip to Millwall looking to make a start of a more consistent run of form after a mixed start to their Championship campaign.

While the hosts head into the midweek round of fixture in 11th place in the standings, their visitors are just one place higher in 10th spot.

Millwall have endured a slow start to the season, picking up just seven points from their first seven matches, but they have since shown signs of improvement and are currently on a two-game winning run.

Gary Rowett’s side claimed a 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough in their last game at The Den, with Zian Flemming scoring a brace, before following it up with a 2-1 win away at Bristol City on Saturday.

Flemming was again the match-winner for his side, capitalising on an error from the Bristol City defence to score his fifth goal of the season, securing an important three points in the process.

The result was a first Championship away victory for Millwall, who have been much more impressive at The Den, collecting 15 points from seven matches on home turf, the fourth-best home record in the division.

Like their hosts, Watford are also in the hunt for the playoff spots, currently two points off sixth place as they aim to ensure a return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Following their relegation in the 2021-22 campaign, Watford have not hit the ground running in the way that they would have fancied, already parting company with former manager Rob Edwards after a record of one win in seven matches.

However, that is the congested nature of the Championship, two wins in four games since bringing in Slaven Bilic means that The Hornets are still within reach of promotion this season, just five points off current leaders Burnley.

Millwall news

Millwall have preffered a 4-2-3-1 formation in recent games and they are set to stick to the system that has earned them two successive victories.

Flemming is the favourite starter in attacking midfield, with George Saville and Billy Mitchell being the preferred choices at the base of the midfield.

Watford news

Watford’s Mario Gasper and Tom Cleverley are both still currently suffering with leg injuries, and not expected to be back until the end of the month.

Ismaila Sarr has been the standout player for the visitors up to this point, and he is expected to start on the left of a three-man attacking midfield.

Prediction and Odds

There is little to separate the two sides ahead of Wednesday’s contest and we are expecting a closely-contested affair.

Millwall have been impressive at home so far during this season, but Watford recorded a good win against Norwich last time out. So we are expecting a share of the spoils.
