Marseille and Montpellier HSC from the Ligue 1 are set to lock horns in the round of 16 in Coupe de France competition this weekend at the Orange Velodrome. Match day is set for 29th January 2021 at 23:00 EAT.
Marseille is the second-most successful club in Coupe de France history with 10 titles (behind only PSG’s 14) but they have not won the tournament since 1989. In Ligue one Marseille is unbeaten in their last five games winning in three matches and drawing in two. Les Olympiens haven’t been able to stop finding the back of the net in one hundred percent of their last six games
In their previous outing, Marseille edged Lens to 0-2 Ligue 1 victory. In that game, Marseille had 53% possession, 10 shots with seven of them on target and goals scored by Dimitri Payet (34′) and Cédric Bakambu (77′). Lens on the other hand got nine shots on goal with three of them on target.
Meanwhile, Montpellier has won the Coupe de France more recently than Marseille, getting their second crown in 1990, but they haven’t really enjoyed the competition with just four appearances. They are placed sixth in the Ligue 1 table with 34 points after 22 matches. In their last five matches they have three wins and two loses.

Jorge Sampaoli’s side will be without Konrad de la Fuente through injury while Gueye and Bamba Dieng and Gerson are on duty in the AFCON and World Cup Qualifying respectively.

As for the hosts Maxime Esteve, Pedro Mendes and Thibault Tamas are on the sidelines with injuries. Ambroise Oyongo remains on duty in AFCON while Teji Savanier and Jordan Ferri are serving suspension.
