The Premier League continues this weekend with another set of important fixtures among them, Manchester United versus Southampton at Old Trafford in Saturday’s early kickoff.
Manchester United continued their long line of underwhelming results last time out when they were held to 1-1 draw against Burnley at away in their midweek fixture with Ralf Rangnick failing to inspire an immediate upturn in the fortunes following their miserable FA Cup exit. As a result the Red Devils have slipped to the sixth spot level on 39 points with the fifth-placed Arsenal who have a game in hand and a point outside the top four.
Although they still remain in the top-four battle United have played at least on match more than most of the sides below them the Red Devils need to find an inspiration from somewhere and as a soon as possible if they are continue challenging for the last Champions League spot.
Despite Rangnick’s side recent struggles they can boast a positive record of four wins from their last five in the Premier League at Old Trafford ahead of this contest and will be desperate to build on that as they look to stay in the top-four race, but it will be important to remember that Southampton are no strangers to taking points off Big Six sides on their own turf, as evidenced in midweek.
The Saints were involved in an incredible match against Tottenham Hotspur in North London on Wednesday night and the capital club were simply outplayed by Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men who only needed two minutes in the remain 10 to stage a stunning comeback to claim maximum points in the 3-2 win in the capital.
The win propelled them Southampton into the top half of the table and will be looking to keep the ball rolling as they at climbing further up the top half and following their recent form and team spirit we expect a close fight that might end in a share of spoils.
