Malmo and Sivasspor will have an encounter at the Eleda Stadion in the first leg of their two-legged Europa League qualifying playoff-round tie on Thursday.

The visitors head into the contest without a win from their opening three matches of the 2022-23 campaign and will be looking to end this dry spell and place one foot in the group stages of the European competition.

Malmo returned to winning ways in the Swedish Allsvenskan as they comfortable saw off Sundsvall 3-1 when the sides met at the Eleda Stadion last Sunday.

A brace from Isaac Kiese Thelin in the first half and Veljko Birmancevic’s 39th-minute goal set the hosts on their way to victory, before Saku Ylatupa pulled one back in the 68th minute.

Mauro Mayer’s side had previously seen their three-game winning run in the league come to an end on August 7, when Marcus Mathisen and Christian Kouakou got on the scoresheet to help Sirius come back from behind and secure a 2-1 victory.

Malmo now turn their attention to the Europa League qualifiers, where they are now two legs away from the group staged of the European competition after securing a 5-2 aggregate victory over Dudelange in the third round.

Sivasspor were denied their first win of the 2022-23 Turkish Super Lig campaign as they lost 3-0 to Adana Demirspor last time out.

Riza Calimbay’s side have now failed to win any of their three matches across all competitions this season, losing 4-0 to Trabzonspor in the Super Cup final on May 7 before drawing 1-1 with Gaziantep in their league opener on August 6.

Sivasspor finished 11th in the Super Lig and secured the Turkish Cup title last season, and will now be looking to claim their first competitive win since May and place one foot in the Europa League group stages.
