Real Sociedad will be looking to build on their weekend’s victory when they visit Estadi de Son Moix to take on a struggling Mallorca in their postponed Matchday 21 tie on Wednesday night with kickoff at 23:00.
Mallorca have made an inconsistent campaign this season and they continued the inconsistency last time out as they fell to 1-0 defeat at home to Valencia in their previous La Liga encounter on Saturday, with Gabriel Paulista sealing the deal for Valencia as early the fourth minute of the clash.
Prior to the defeat, Luis Garcia’s side were coming off a 2-1 away defeat to Real Betis and have now won just two of their last nine league matches, picking up a draw while suffering six defeats in the process. As a result the Pirates have dropped into the 16th in the standings with five points above the relegation zone, although they have played one match less than most of the sides around them; including all three in relegation zone.
They will therefore be looking to bounce back to winning ways on Wednesday as they look aim at leapfrogging Getafe into 15th and increasing the gap between themselves and the danger zone. However, Mallorca face an uphill task on Wednesday, having lost all of their last four La Liga meetings against Real Sociedad, including the 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this season and the last time they won against their opponents in La Liga was back in September 2012.
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad responded to their European exit, following the 3-1 home defeat to Leipzig in the second leg of the knockout playoffs of the Europa League, with a narrow 1-0 home win against Osuna in the previous La Liga fixture on Sunday.
Sociedad have now won just two of their last eight matches across all competitions, while have won two of their last five league matches picking up two draws and defeat in the process. As a result they sit one place and one point outside the European places in the standings but with a match in hand on the sixth-placed Villarreal.
That means a win in this match will see them climb into the top-six and will be just a point behind the fourth-placed Barcelona. Therefore, the Whites and Blues will be looking for another positive result on Wednesday and given their dominance over their opponents as mentioned earlier, Sociedad will be confident of claiming maximum points in the clash.
