Mallorca vs Girona Match Analysis and Prediction

Mallorca will be looking to make it back-to-back victories in La Liga when they play host to Girona at Visit Mallorca Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts, who are currently ninth in the table, will enter the contest off the back of a 2-0 victory at Rayo Vallecano, while Girona suffered a 1-0 defeat to Celta Vigo last time out.

Mallorca are in their second straight season in the Spanish top flight, having finished 16th in the table last season, which is their best run in La Liga since 2013.

Javier Aguirre’s side kicked off their 2022-23 La Liga campaign with a goalless draw at Athletic Bilbao before suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Real Betis on August 20.

However, Mallorca managed to secure their first three points of the season last time out, beating Rayo Vallecano 2-0 in the Spanish capital through goals from Vedat Muriqi and Lee Kang-in.

The Pirates have won their last two league matches against Girona, which both came in Segunda Division, while they have only lost one of their last four meetings with their opponents in this contest.

Meanwhile, Girona secured a return to La Liga for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign through the Segunda Division playoffs last season.

Michel’s side finished sixth in the regular season, before defeating Eibar and then Tenerife to ensure that they would earn promotion to the Spanish top flight following a three-year absence.

The White and Reds began their 2022-23 campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Valencia on August 14 but managed to record their first win one week later, defeating Getafe 3-1.

However, Girona will enter Saturday’s contest off the back of a defeat, falling to a 1-0 defeat against Celta Vigo on August 26, and they are currently in 13th position in the table on three points.

Mallorca news

Mallorca are again expected to be without the services of Amath Ndiaye, Iddrisu Baba, Dominik Greif and Angel for the contest against Girona.

Kang-in and Miriqi both got on the scoresheet in the game against Rayo Vallecano last time out, and they are expected to retain their spots as the front two.

Yangel Herrera and Ramon Terrats picked up hamstring and calf issues respectively againts Celta Vigo, so the duo are set to be absent against Mallorca on Saturday.

Prediction and Odds

Both teams will be sure to take the game to each other on Saturday, and we expect it to be an open and entertaining contest.

However, Mallorca were impressive against Rayo Vallecano last time out, and we believe that the hosts will have enough quality to claim another three points here.
