Dortmund will kick start their preparations for the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign when they travel to Kampfbahn Schwansbell to play Luna SV in a club friendly tie on Tuesday night.
Although it’s a preseason fixture, this will be an historical event for Luner SV, who currently competes in the sixth tier of the German football, to play Borussia Dortmund, one of the top clubs in Germany and Europe, at their stadium.
Last season they managed a midtable finish in the Westfaleniga 1, coming in ninth place overall after 34 games in a campaign that saw mixed results for them. Generally, though, Luner managed to win most of their fixtures, picking up 15 victories, eight draws and 11 defeats last term.
Now this fixture provides them a rare opportunity to prove themselves and test their qualities against a top German side, and thus they will aim to build their confidence with a positive performance.
Meanwhile Borussia Dortmund, who finished runners-up in the Bundesliga last season, eight points adrift of winners Bayern Munich will be looking to start new life without their main man Erling Haaland, who left for Manchester City this summer.
However, they have snapped up Karim Adeyemi from Salsburg and the announcement of Sebastien Haller from Ajax is expected soon. Therefore, Marco Rose’s side will still be strong in their attack next season and will be looking to use their preseason to build form so they can hit the ground running when the league officially opens.
