After an impressive start to the 2022-23 campaign, Girona will be looking to move into the top half of the La Liga table by defeating Real Sociedad at home on Sunday.

However, the visitors have made a superb start to the season both domestically and in Europe, and a win could see them end the weekend in fifth place.

Girona earned promotion from the second tier last season and have made a strong start to the season with seven points from their opening six matches.

Michel’s side were beaten 2-1 by Real Betis in their last game, but were perharps unfortunate to lose after putting on a solid performance against a side who are sitting in the Champions League spots.

The Catalonian outfit’s most recent victory came in a 2-1 win over Real Valladolid three weeks ago, when goals from Reiner Jesus and Oriol Romeu helped them put three points on the board.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad have began the campaign with 10 points from six matches, sitting just three points adrift of the Champions League spots.

Last time out, Imanol Alguacil’s side defeated Espanyol 2-1, with goals from Alexander Sorloth and Brais Mendez either side of an Edu Exposito equaliser securing the victory.

It has been an impressive start to the campaign when Sociedad’s European commitments are factored in, where victories over Manchester United and Omonia Nicosia see them top their Europa League group with maximum points.

Real Sociedad also played out an impressive away draw against Atletico Madrid at the start of September, but scoring goals has been a problem for Alguacil’s side.

Aside from Mallorca, Sociedad are the only team in the top half who have a negative goal difference. However, with a number of creative players at disposal, they will soon start to hit the back of the net more regularly.
