Girona vs Eibar Match Analysis and Prediction

Girona will welcome Eibar to Estadi Montilivi for their first leg of their Segunda Division Playoffs semi-final tie on Thursday night with kickoff at 20:00.

Girona failed to get themselves back into La Liga last season when they lost 3-2 on aggregate to Rayo Vallecano in the final of the playoffs. They have now spent three seasons in Segunda Division ever since getting relegated in 2019. They will be looking to go a step further this time round to secure their third-ever campaign in the Spanish top-flight football.

The Whites and Reds finished their Segunda Division campaign this season sixth on 68 points, with a last day draw against Burgos proving enough to book them a place in the playoffs.

They head into the playoffs in a poor form though having won just two of their last six La Liga 2 games, picking up just a draw while suffering three defeats in the run. Michel’s side is also coming up against a side they have fallen to in their last encounters and actually their last home win against Eibar was back in 2009.

The last five matches with Girona playing at home, Girona have won just once, while Eibar have claimed three victories and the goal difference is 9-6 in favor of the visitors. Eibar also head into the clash in a much better form, despite losing 1-0 to Alcoron on the final day. They have now just lost two of their last seven Segunda Division matches, claiming four victories and a draw in the run.

Eibar also made a much better campaign in the Segunda Division this term, finishing 12 points above their Thursday hosts in third with just one point behind the league winners Almeria. Therefore Eibar are favorites to win the playoffs and will look to start on the front foot on Thursday.
