Getafe and Villarreal square off against each other at Coliseum Alfonso Perez in their La Liga matchday 32 fixture on Saturday night with kickoff at 22:00.
Getafe have struggled in La Liga this season with the side claiming just seven wins from their 31 matches and they now sit 14th in bottom half of the table with 32 points on board in their name. They continued their inconsistency last time out as they fell to a 2-0 defeat Real Madrid last weekend.
They have now won just one of their last eight La Liga matches, suffering three defeats and recording four draw in the run. The run has them sitting just four points above the relegation and another poor result on Saturday could see them dragged back into a relegation scrap with just six matches remaining to go.
Therefore, Quique’s side will be looking to bounce back to winning ways to increase their chance of survival, but to do they will need to work on their poor home form that has seen them go winless in their last 10 matches at Coliseum Alfonso Perez stadium.
Meanwhile Villarreal head into the match off a hard-fought and shocking 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League at away last Tuesday. The draw highlighted Villarreal’s success in the European football as it saw them book a place in the semifinal of the Champions League on aggregate against all odds.
However, the Yellow Submarine have failed to reciprocate their European success in their domestic campaign as they have only managed to claim 46 points from their 31 matches a record that has them currently sitting eight points outside the European places and are 10 points off the fourth-placed Atletico Madrid.
They have also been awful in La Liga lately and head into the match having failed to win any of their last three league matches, while have only won one of their last five top-flight matches, suffering three defeats in the process.
With the league on its final straight Villarreal need to quickly bounce back if they are to at least clench a European finish. Otherwise their hopes of European football next season will be through winning the Champions League, but with the likes of Real Madrid, Man City and Liverpool being also in contention for the title, Unai Emery’s side have no choice but to turn around their fortunes in La Liga here.
They have won all their last five league matches against Getafe and should be confident of extending that run here.
