Exeter City play host to Barrow in Tuesday’s League Two clash at St James’ Park, with only one win away from assuring themselves of promotion to League One.
The hosts moved closer to the third division by defeating Rochdale 2-0 at the weekend, while Barrow also kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Sutton United.
Timothee Dieng and Matt Jay scored either side of the half-time for Exeter in an ultimately straighforward victory over Rochdale, and another victory in fron of their own suppoerters would end their 10-year absence from the third division of English football.
Exeter could even move to the top if results and goals go in their favour in midweek, with Forest Green Rovers due to face Swindon Town at the same time, but a win at the very least would guarantee that they could not be caught by Northampton Town before the two sides meet on Saturday.
Still unbeaten at home in League Tow in 2022, Exeter head into Tuesday’s fixture having won each of their last four at St James Park, scoring two goals on each occasion.
Barrow’s end-of-season goals have largely differed to that of their upcoming hosts this week, but they can look forward to another season of League Two football after defeating Sutton United with 10 men at the weekend.
Barely a minute after John Rooney had put Barrow on the lead, Josh Kay picked up a red card for two bookable offences, but Phil Brown’s side held on for three points after Rob Milsom’s penalty was beaten away by Paul Farman.
The pressure is now off for Barrow before they meet Swindon and Northampton in the last two matchdays, but they have claimed seven points from the nine available, and they managed to hold Exeter to a goalless draw back in August.
