Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers will go toe-to-toe at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville, in a highly anticipated Europa League final on Wednesday night with kickoff at 22:00.
Both sides were unlikely to reach the Europa League final, but both did well to book their tickets to the big occasions. Both started their incredible journeys in the group stages of the competition with Eintracht Frankfurt finishing at the top of Group D with 12 points from six matches, while Rangers finished second in Group A behind Lyon with eight points.
However finishing first, Frankfurt booked a straight ticket to the knockout stages, whereas Rangers went through the playoffs claiming a surprising and impressive 6-4 victory over Borussia Dortmund on aggregate.
The two have since eliminated decent oppositions with the Germans knocking out the likes of Real Betis, Barcelona and West Ham who they beat 3-1 on aggregate in the semifinals, while the Scots saw out well, Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade, Braga and RB Leipzig who they beat 3-2 on aggregate in their semifinal tie.
The two will now be fighting for the ultimate prize of the competitions and there is little to separate them. Although Rangers have been in a slightly fine form than Frankfurt as the Gers have won their last four games across all competitions, while the Eagles have won one drawn two and lost one of their last four matches.
These two last meet in the semi-finals of the 1959-60 European Cup with the Germans claiming an emphatic 12-4 win on aggregate. However, so much has changed since then and we expect a very close encounter that could be decided in a penalty shootout.
