Cremonese vs Sampdoria Match Analysis and Prediction

A contest at the bottom of Serie A standings sees 19th-placed Cremonese take on a Sampdoria side sitting a the bottom of the table, as the sides meet at Stadio Giovanni Zini on Monday.

In unexpected circumstances, both teams progressed in the Coppa Italia last week, but neither has tasted top-flight victory during the first 10 rounds of the campaign.

Though Cremonese fought back from behind to secure just their fourth point of the season, they equalled a club record last week, as they have now failed to win any of their first 10 matches in a Serie A campaign for just the second time.

Finally finding some form in the opposition area, having joined Cremonese in the summer, Cyriel Dessers put them ahead against fellow strugglers Spezia last Sunday, but only a Charles Pickel goal shortly after the break salvaged a 2-2 draw which leaves them second-last in the standings.

Some brief break from the realities of life at the top level then saw Massimiliano Alvini’s side face Modena in a midweek Coppa Italia tie, and despite failing to hold onto a two-goal lead with 88 minutes played, they eventually defeated 10-man opponents in extra time.

Like their hosts, Sampdoria are yet to win in Serie A this season, and it is now 50 years since they last remained winless in each of their first 11 league matches.

Just three days after yet another setback, when they narrowly lost 1-0 at home to Roma in Serie A, Sampdoria hosted Ascoli in the Coppa Italia on Thursday, and they only prevailed on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

Dejan Stankovic’s side have won just one of their last 15 away matches, and none since March – when they last kept a clean sheet away from home – while losing 11 games in the process.

Alvini will revert to a more familiar lineup in the league, with the likes of Cristian Buonaiuto and Jaime Baez most likely dropped to the bench.
