Premier League action returns this weekend with newly promoted Brentford looking to maintain their unbeaten run when they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday with kickoff at 17:00.
Both sides have previously met before in the second, third and fourth tiers of English football but this will mark their first ever meeting in the top tier. The two teams have made solid starts to the season with Brentford claiming five points from their opening three matches, while Brighton have claimed six points.
Only seven Premier League clubs including Brentford remain unbeaten this season and they appear to be settling down to life in the Premier League. The Bees opened the season with a 2-0 victory against Arsenal which was a huge confidence boost for the newbies who seem to have carried on from there.
Thomas Frank’s side head into the match off the back of two league draws with the first being a 0-0 at Crystal Palace then the 1-1 at Villa Park shortly before the international break. Now if the Bees were to salvage at least a point on Saturday they could become the first maiden Premier League club since Portsmouth in 2003-04 to remain unbeaten in their opening four matches.
Brentford now sit in the 10th position with five points in the league standings and they face what Thomas Frank believes to be their “toughest opponents” yet when they welcome Brighton who they have only managed to beat three times in their last 11 meetings. However, the Bees are in a good form as they haven’t lost in any of their last five games with a three-match home winning streak.
Meanwhile Graham Potter will be happy with his side’s efforts in August because a year ago, Brighton were number 14 in the table with three points but now they are number eight with six points. Also, they only recorded nine victories in the Premier League last season and a win on Saturday will see them reach a third of that total in just the four opening matches.
However, the Seagulls will need to work on and improve their away form if they are to salvage all the three points this weekend since Potter’s men have only won three of their last 22 top-flight away games in London and have also just won one of their last nine away league games against their Saturday’s hosts.
