Borussia Dortmund will look to continue their pursuit of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in the race for the title as they welcome RB Leipzig to Signal Iduna Park for their Matchday 28 tie on Saturday night with kickoff at 19:30 EAT.
Borussia drew 1-1 with FC Koln in their previous Bundesliga match before the international break. They will be kicking themselves over the draw, despite it extending their fine Bundesliga form that has seen only lose one and draw just two of their last 10 league matches.
The run has seen the Marco Rose’s side turn the title race into a two-horse race in the Bundesliga as they now sit six points behind the leaders Bayern with six matches remaining.
To continue their pressure on Munich, Dortmund need to quickly bounce back to winning ways and extend their impressive run, with their title rivals seeming to have come out of their slump. Rose’s side will be confident heading into the match as they have been prolific at the Signal Iduna Park this season, winning 11 of their 13 home matches so far, while have won four of their last five – including a 5-1 victory over Freiburg and a 6-0 win over Monchengladbach. Also, when playing at home they have not lost to Leipzig in their last three encounters.
However, a Christopher Nkunku inspired Leipzig have also basically ‘owned’ the second half of the Bundesliga with the side only lost to leaders Bayern Munich since the turn of the year. That means that they have only lost one of their last 10 Bundesliga matches claiming seven victories in the run.
The run has seen them revive their top-four finish hopes as they now sit in the fourth spot, which is the last Champions League spot, in the Bundesliga standings. They are level on points with fifth-placed Freiburg, and are both a point above sixth-paced Hoffenheim.
Therefore the Red Bulls need to continue their fine run to keep their Champions League spot and with just six matches remaining to end of the season, no one can really afford to drop points. It’s going to be an interesting end to the season.
