Championship Matchday 40 brings an important Birmingham derby as Birmingham City welcome West Bromwich Albion t St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium on Sunday evening with kickoff at 17:00.
Birmingham city have made an inconsistent campaign this season and have been fighting to stay out of the relegation zone since the turn of the year.
However, despite sitting just three places above the drop zone they are 14 points adrift of the danger zone and with the league entering its finals stages, the Blues have probably secured a place in the Championship next season.
But, with the side heading into the fixture with just one win from there last seven Championship matches, manager Lee Bowyer will want to improve their form to avoid any last-minute relegation scrap.
Meanwhile, West Brom’s campaign was looking to like it will end in the mad following a bright start to the season. However, the Baggies seem to have find their track again under Steve Bruce as they have now gone four matches unbeaten in the division on the bounce.
The run which includes two wins and two draws has seen Bruce’s side revive their playoff hopes as they now sit in 12th on 54 points from 38 matches, seven points behind the sixth-placed Blackburn Rovers with a game in hand on the Riversiders.
They need to extend the newly found momentum if they are going to keep their target alive. Also they need to work on their home form as five of their final league matches will be contested in front of their own fans, something they will need to take advantage of.
