Barcelona will look to extend their brilliant form when they welcome Sevilla to Camp Nou for their La Liga Matchday 30 fixture on Sunday night with kickoff at 22:00.
Barcelona continued their great resurgence in La Liga last time out as they cruised to 4-0 victory against league leaders Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu before the international break. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has continued to prove to be an integral acquisition as the former Arsenal captain extended his goal-scoring streak with a brace on the day. Ferran Torres and Ronald Araujo were also on target, sealing the Catalans’ fifth consecutive league win.
With a superior goal difference, another positive result for Barcelona on Sunday would see them leapfrog their visitors into second place as they sit third, level on 54 points with fifth-placed Atletico Madrid, just three points behind Sevilla and with a match in hand.
They will therefore be looking to extend their winning streak on Sunday and they will fancy their chances as they boast a 16-match unbeaten run against Sevilla at Camp Nou. Also, they won their last four home league matches, scoring four goals in each of the last three with a 4-2 victory over champions Atletico Madrid among the three.
Sevilla, on the other hand, have quite been the opposite of Barcelona in the recent weeks as Julen Lopetegui’s side are on a downward spiral and could slip to fourth in the league standings if the results don’t go their way on Sunday.
Loperegui’s troops rally to Camp Nou with just two wins from their last nine league matches, while are winless in their last three games across all competitions – a run that has seen them crash out of the Europa League, courtesy of a 2-1 defeat to West Ham on aggregate.
With a match against Real Madrid among those to come, Los Nervionenses could be in for a difficult end to the campaign and they need an inspiration as soon as possible. A victory on Sunday will be a massive inspiration and Lopetegui will urge his team to go for it. However, Camp Nou is always a difficult place for them to visit and were beaten 3-0 on their last visit.
