Atletico Madrid vs Granada Match Analysis and prediction

Atletico Madrid will be looking to make back-to-back victories on the bounce in La Liga when they welcome a struggling Granada to Wand Metropolitano for their league Matchday 33 tie on Wednesday night with kickoff at 20:00.

Atletico Madrid are coming off a 2-1 home victory against Espanyol in La Liga last Sunday, with a second half brace from Yannick Carrasco securing the win for Diego Simeone’s side. The victory saw them bounce back from a three-match winless run that included two defeats and a draw.

The run saw them knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 defeat on aggregate, while increasing the gap between them and La Liga leaders to 15 points. With just five matches remaining to go, it will take a miracle for Real Madrid to lose their grip in the title race and thus Atletico Madrid have nothing else to fight for except the top-four finish in La Liga.

They currently sit fourth in the league standings level on 60 points with both Barcelona and Sevilla  who sit in second and third respectively, although the Catalans have a game in hand on both Sevilla and Atletico. Real Betis sit fifth with only three points behind Atletico and thus they will look to build on their weekend victory as they at keeping their Champions League place.

Meanwhile Granada have made a poor campaign this season with the side claiming just 29 points from their 32 matches and are involved in a relegation battle as they sit level on points with the 18th-placed Mallorca, while are just four points above both Levante and Alaves at the bottom of the table.

They head into the match off a poor run that has seen lose their last two consecutive matches and have won just one of their last 14 La Liga matches. Another poor result on Wednesday could leave them in the relegation zone with just four matches to go.

Therefore, they need a victory to continue sitting outside the drop zone, but Atletico Madrid, a side they have only beaten once in their last 17 meeting stands in their way. However, the win came this season in the reverse fixture and they will draw confidence form that as they desperately look to stay outside the relegation zone.
