Athletic Bilbao vs Levante Match Analysis and Prediction

Levante aim to continue their imperessive run of form when they travel to San Mames on Monday to face Athletic Bilbao.

Eight-placed Athletic suffered a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in their last league game, while their 20th-placed Levante will enter the match off the back of a 3-0 win over Elche.

Athletic were in the Copa del Rey action against Valencia on Wednesday, travelling to Mestalla for the second leg of their semi-final after a 1-1 scoreline in the first leg, with a first-half goal from Goncalo Guedes ultimately deciding the tie.

The Lions will be determined to bounce back from the cup disappointment on Monday, and they still have plenty to play for in the league.

Marcelino’s side have not actually finished higher than eighth in La Liga since 2017, and they will be hoping to improve on last season’s finish of 10th.

Athletic have struggled for consistency on home turf this season, winning six, drawing two and losing four of their 12 matches, but they are unbeaten against Levante in the league since December 2018, including a 2-0 victory in the corresponding match last season.

Levante have held Athletic to draws in their last two meetings, including a goalless draw this season, and the visitors will enter this fixture full of confidence due to their impressive form.

Alessio Lisci’s side are attempting to complete their escape from the danger zone, winning two and drawing one of their last three in the league to collect seven points, with the two victories coming against Atletico Madrid and Elche.

The Frogs are now in their fifth straight season at this level of football and their relegation would be a surprise, but their supporters will have been encouraged by recent performances, and another win would further boost the confidence in the camp.

Athletic have no injury or suspension issues ahead of this match, with Iker Muniain and Inaki Williams both set to start, while Oihan Sancet could replace Raul Garcia.
